Hydroseeding FAQs — Calgary's Complete Guide
Twenty-three preserved FAQ topics cover timing, materials, pricing, aftercare and scope questions. They are planning references with unsupported provider promises corrected.
What Is Hydroseeding?
What is hydroseeding and how does it work?
Hydraulic mulch seeding applies a mixture of seed, mulch, water and specified additives to prepared soil. Ingredients, application and establishment depend on the actual product and site. The original seven-to-fourteen-day window and uniform-cover claim are examples, not a result guarantee.
What does hydroseeding look like when it's applied?
The appearance and drying of a slurry depend on its actual mulch, dye and moisture conditions. Ask for the product specification and expected observations; colour is not proof of safety, coverage or germination.
Is the hydroseed slurry safe for children, pets, and the environment?
Do not assume a slurry or additive is non-toxic, biodegradable or safe for children, pets or waterways. Follow the actual product labels and qualified applicator’s access and re-entry instructions. Protect seedlings from traffic separately from any chemical restrictions.
Calgary Climate & Timing
What is the best time of year to hydroseed in Calgary?
The source’s late-May to mid-August and early-September windows are historical planning examples. Confirm the seed specification, actual soil temperature, current frost risk and permitted water access with the provider.
How does Calgary's climate affect hydroseeding results?
Record wind exposure, runoff, soil temperature, growing time and water access for the actual site. The original hardiness-zone, season-length and product-resistance figures do not establish current conditions or a design limit.
Can I hydroseed in the fall in Calgary?
Fall or dormant seeding depends on the chosen species, soil, forecast, moisture and site design. Discuss the remaining establishment window and aftercare with the provider; no date cutoff, irrigation rule or success rate is guaranteed here.
What soil temperature is needed for hydroseeding in Calgary?
Use the actual species and seed-lot requirements and measure the site’s soil conditions. The original eight-to-ten-degree example is not a universal germination threshold or calendar forecast.
Watering & Aftercare
How do I water my lawn after hydroseeding?
Agree a written watering plan for the actual soil, slope, seed and irrigation system within current municipal water permissions. Observe moisture, pooling and runoff and report problems. The source’s fixed minutes and daily counts are not a universal watering prescription.
What happens if I miss a day of watering?
Record when and where moisture was missed and inspect the surface with the provider. Seedling risk depends on species, stage, heat and soil; no safe missed-day allowance is established. Confirm a feasible watering plan before application.
When is the lawn ready to be mowed after hydroseeding?
Confirm readiness, mowing height, equipment and access with the provider using actual growth and soil conditions. The original four-inch and week-five examples are historical references, not a guaranteed readiness date.
When can pets and children use the lawn?
Follow the actual product’s re-entry restrictions and provider instructions, and protect establishing vegetation from traffic. Establishment and safe access are separate questions; neither is determined by the source’s fixed six-to-eight-week window.
Pricing & Guarantees
How much does hydroseeding cost in Calgary?
The preserved source rates are historical CAD assumptions: residential $0.12–$0.18/sq ft, commercial $0.08/sq ft and specialty examples up to $0.28/sq ft. They are not current quotes. Confirm preparation, materials, access, mobilization, taxes and exclusions.
Do you offer a germination guarantee?
HAUSE does not offer a germination guarantee. Ask the actual provider for written coverage criteria, measurement method, watering responsibilities, exclusions and remedies. The original 70% threshold and free-reapplication promise were unsupported.
Why is hydroseeding so much cheaper than sod?
Compare itemized sod and seed-based quotes for the same preparation, access, material and acceptance scope. Growing in place and laying supplied sod have different logistics; the source’s production years, application hours and savings claims were not verified.
What payment methods do you accept?
Confirm payment methods, deposits, milestones and credit terms in the actual provider’s written quote. HAUSE intake does not offer a payment account or standard deposit.
Seed, Soil & Weeds
What seed blend do you use for Calgary residential lawns?
The source mixture—creeping red fescue 35%, Canada bluegrass 35%, perennial ryegrass 30%—is a historical example, not a prescription or proprietary HAUSE blend. Confirm the actual species, purity, germination, lot label and site suitability.
Do I need to prepare my soil before hydroseeding?
Assess debris, compaction, drainage, existing vegetation and soil results with the provider before selecting preparation or amendments. Confirm utilities and grading approvals before disturbance. The source’s depths and topsoil quantities are not a universal specification.
What about weeds after hydroseeding?
Record weed species and seedling condition. Any herbicide use must follow the actual product label, reseeding interval, permissions and qualified advice; a generic mowing count or week number does not establish safe treatment.
Can you hydroseed over an existing lawn?
Compare overseeding with renovation after assessing existing cover, compaction, weeds and seed-soil contact. The original one-inch mowing and 40% threshold are examples, not a universal treatment rule.
Commercial & Specialty Applications
Can you hydroseed in hard-to-reach or steep areas?
Record gates, hose route, vehicle access, slopes and sensitive areas. Confirm actual equipment reach and safety with the provider; the source’s 300-foot hose claim is not HAUSE capacity.
Do you service properties outside Calgary city limits?
The listed communities are location references. Confirm actual travel, availability and mobilization charges with the provider rather than assuming dispatch from HAUSE.
Do you work with landscape contractors and builders?
Contractor scopes need agreed scheduling, documentation, pricing and responsibilities. HAUSE records the inquiry; it does not assert subcontractor capacity or a rate card.
Still Have Questions?
